RAINBOWS

In this project you will make some rainbows that sparkle in the sun.

This project is rated as SUPER easy.

Materials needed:

String, old CD's, optionally: wire (Only needed if you are going to make a mobile)

Do you have any old CD's (CD-ROM's or music CD's) that you no longer want to use? Don't throw them away! You can use them to make some pretty and interesting things.

You can do this project in many different ways. However, I am going to explain one way of doing it.

Cut a piece of string about 30 inches long.
Fold the string in half.
Knot the two ends together.
Insert the doubled string through the hole in the center of a CD.
Pull the knotted end of the string through the loop at the other end.
Draw the string tight; you should have something that looks like the following picture.

Now hang the CD outdoors where the sun will shine on it (try to have the shiny side toward the house.)

When the wind blows, a reflection will chase around your yard; and when you look at the shiny side, you will see ever changing rainbows.

Now, if you have more than one CD that you can use, you can make a mobile. See mobile project.

ANOTHER OPTION:

If you have enough CD's, you can put two CD's together, printed side to printed side, and then put on the string. This will give you two shiny sides facing outward. If they twist in the wind, you can see reflections and rainbows from both sides.
